Come join us on Saturday, April 11 for the opening 300 km brevet of the 2020 Seattle International Randonneurs season. Whether your cycling goals for this season include a full brevet series, a 1200 or just a few long rides, we think you will like this ride. This is a hilly route with fabulous views and quite remote in places. Cell phone reception is known to be non-existent for some long stretches of the ride. Total climbing is about 2200 meters, or 7300 feet.
*** We are aware of the landslide on Middle Fork and the turnaround will be before the landslide. ***
We start from the University Village Starbucks. There are many Starbucks at University Village so make sure you find the right one. This Starbucks opens at 05:00 and we will have coffee and treats starting at 05:30. Please arrive early to get signed in. We will roll from Starbucks at 06:00 promptly. Sunrise is at 06:27 so it will still be dark; wear your reflective vest and ankle bands and have your front and rear lights on your bike.
The route travels across the 520 bridge and along 520 to the East Lake Sammamish trail. It will then cross over some hills to enter the Snoqualmie Valley. From there it will travel up the river through Fall City, North Bend, and eventually to nearly the end of the paved Middle Fork road at km 92. The Middle Fork has no services of any kind so stock up on food in North Bend. At the turnaround, we will serve you some refreshments and food. It's an easy coast back to North Bend. From here the route follows familiar roads to Sultan and then up another set of hills to reach Granite Falls at km 226 There are good services here so stock up. A hilly route back to Snohomish, then some back roads as you travel back to the Burke Gilman in Woodinville and the final 25 km on the flat wide trail.
The finish is close by at the RAM Brewery. Bring a bike lock for the party afterwards at the RAM. The RAM closes at Sunday 01:00 after which time the control will be outside and there will be a blinking sign (SIR staff may be waiting in a nearby car).
IF YOU DNF CALL/TEXT THE RIDE ORGANIZER OTHERWISE WE WILL WAIT FOR YOU AT THE FINISH AND THEN CALL YOU AND WAKE YOU OR YOUR EMERGENCY CONTACT UP AT SUNDAY 02:30.
