Trace NW

The Trace is a ride that emphasizes friendship, teamwork, and camaraderie. Teams of two to six bikes (that’s as few as two people on singles, or as many as twelve people on tandems!) ride a route of their own design of 200 to 360km. Each team’s route starts wherever the team would like and then converges in Tumwater, Washington at the Flèche and Trace brunch at The River’s Edge.

Important note: Traces do not count for RUSA or ACP awards at this time. This includes R-12, Distance, R5000, RUSA Cup, etc. They do not count for PBP qualification. At this time, RUSA will not be including Traces in the RUSA results pages.

Ride starts: Each team will start no earlier than Saturday, April 13, at 00:01 a.m. (feel free to start later!)

Brunch/finish: April 14 at 9 a.m.

River's Edge
4611 Tumwater Valley Dr SE, Olympia, WA 98501

(If you finish the night before the brunch, consider heading to the Flèche finish at La Quinta Inn & Suites Tumwater 4600 Capitol Blvd SE, Tumwater, WA 98501)

Ride Entry Fee:
$25 per person (includes brunch for the rider)

Brunch Location and Cost:

River's Edge
4611 Tumwater Valley Dr SE, Olympia, WA 98501

Your family and friends are welcome at brunch! Their brunch is $20 per person (includes tax and gratuity). Payment for brunch guests must be made at the time of team registration. Please indicate guests in your team registration document.

SIR tradition is for all riders to attend the brunch and tell tall tales, so please plan to stick around after you finish.

There is a bar at River's Edge, so you can get a mimosa or Bloody Mary, if that's your style. These drinks are not included in the ride entry or guest brunch cost; you'll have to set up your own tab with the bar.

Rules:

Expect to follow similar rules to brevets and permanents: you’ll have an overall time limit, controls, and a control card to document and verify your progress. Control cards must be turned in at the Sunday Brunch (gather up all the cards for your team and then hand them to Theo).

  1. 2 to 6 bikes per team
  2. All team members ride the whole distance (they don’t take turns)
  3. Teams choose their start place. Their finish place has to be at River's Edge in Tumwater (hang out nearby if you're early)
  4. Minimum distance 200 km, maximum distance 360 km
  5. Start is possible from Saturday, April 13, at 00:01 a.m. (feel free to start later!)
  6. There is no minimal duration between start and finish (that is, no penalty for being too fast)
  7. The duration of the rest stops is not limited
  8. Deadline to arrive is Sunday, April 14, is 9:00 a.m.
  9. Teams must show up at the brunch to hand their cards over to the organizer
  10. At least 2 bikes of the same team must finish
  11. All team members must wear a high-visibility reflective vest and reflective ankle bands at night or in other low-light conditions
  12. Trace routes will have a minimum of 3 controls, spaced at least 50 km apart, not including the start and finish controls (that is to say: start, 50km, 100km, 150km... finish)
