The Seattle Internationals will run the still-small (we haven't started counting iterations) Crater Lake 1000K ACP Brevet starting at Midnight on September 14th (that's midnight between Thursday and Friday). Revisions of start time are possible depending on the Seattle to Bremerton Ferry.

The ride starts at the Bremerton Ferry Terminal next to the Starbucks. If it is a clear night, the Hood Canal will seduce you, but you have "miles to go before you sleep," and so will the Mountain Creek serenade you on Purdy Cutoff as you make your way up to the Shelton Airport and to your first Control at Matlock. Ride rollers toward the Pacific, finding nourishment and daybreak at Raymond and perhaps at Naselle. Cross the Mighty Columbia at its mouth on a long bridge into Astoria. You are in Oregon; beautiful beaches, surf, searock, and rollers all the way to Reedsport by the huge sand dunes. And then you head east and inland.

Before Reedsport, which is at the 600k mark, you will overnight this year at Neskowin -- Proposal Rock Inn at 420 km (approx), a little farther than the traditional Pacific City at 400km, so bank your sleep. Day 2 now puts you at the bottom of the Slab Creek climb before rolling to reedsport. then inland past the game reserve to the infamous and deceptive Camp Creek climb and gravel descent. get to bed early at the Roseburg Best Western for tomorrow...

Day 3 is the Hundred Mile Climb "How long do I have to climb up on the side of this mountain of mine?" to Crater Lake at 8000 ft ASL. descent 4000 ft -- a ripoff -- and possibly a short climb on gravel before the finish at Kalamath Falls Olympic Inn. Additional logistics below.

There are several stretches (Reedsport - Roseburg, Roseburg - Crater Lake, Crater Lake - Klamath Falls) with few services, so be prepared.

There are several information controls, so bring a pencil or pen.

Logistics:

This is an unsupported ride and follows the rules of RUSA brevets. We will, however, porvide bag drop service at neskowin, Roseburg, and Klamath Falls at designated hotels where a room will be designated as the Control room.

SIR will provide a limited amount of room in Neskowin and Roseburg where riders are able to sleep RANDO-STYLE (ed.'s note: two riders to a queen bed, two beds to a room). For more privacy we highly recommend you book your own rooms and do it soon. We will have an official control room at Klamath Falls, however riders are expected to book their own accommodations. The official Finish is at the Olympic Inn at Klamath Falls, but other sleep options are available in town. Though the support will be limited, we will do all we can to support those who wish to ride through.

Arrive at the start: most people will take the Seattle to Bremerton Ferry. It is also possible to arrive by road to Bremerton and find the ferry terminal. There are also hotels by the ferry terminal for those who choose to arrive ahead of time. Anticipate Bike Inspection on arrival at the start (front and rear lights attached to the bike; reflective vest and ankle bands).

On the road: there will be areas where services are thing. Do not expect services from control vehicles between overnight stops (except in an emergency), though if we can, we like to provide sweet secret non controls. So study your cue sheets after the pre-ride and determine where you need to stock up.  A good breakfast makes the day and besides services at overnights, Day 1 in Raymond, Day 2 in Lincoln City, and Day 3 on the Umpqua river.

After you finish, Kalamath falls has a number of establishments for celebration. There is a brewery and many restaurants. Do your paperwork at the Olympic Inn and find your spot. the earlier you arrive, the more your options.

Next Day: Visit the area, escape by road. It is possible to fly out of a regional airport, btu the most popular is the Amtrak train to the destination of your choice. As you book your Amtrak ticket, do inquire if you will need to put your bike in the box and, if so, order one for that day to be purchased at the station. It may be that you do not need a box for the Coast Starlight train anymore, but do cross check with Amtrak. The Train Station is only a very short ride from the Olympic Inn. If you book another hotel, consider the distance to the train station. If you need to box your bike, please arrive eary at the station (ed.'s note: the Amtrak policy used to be one hour in advance. Check with the Kalamth Falls station and don't be late!) to take off your pedals and handlebars before boxing the beauty.
