Brevet Week 400K (ACP)

About this event

If you see this on a desktop web browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc on a Mac, Windows, etc), then something is amiss. There's a strange interaction going on between some browsers (especially running in private/incognito mode or with enhanced tracking protection enabled) and Club Express. Until we devise a proper fix, you can work around this problem by:
  • Click here to open the SIR home page in a new tab.
  • Click the blue "Member Login" link in the upper right corner.
  • Enter your name and password, then click the big blue "Login" button.
  • Come back to this tab (you can close the home page tab if you wish) and refresh this page.
  • Hopefully all is well and you can continue with the waiver and registration process.
If you see this on a mobile device (phone or tablet) then you probably got here by clicking a link within Facebook. Our registration process does not work with the Facebook IOS integrated web browser. You'll need to open this page in a "real" (native) browser:
  • Click the ellipses (three dots) in the upper right corner of this window. You may need to scroll the page up and down slightly to encourage the ellipses to appear at the top of the screen.

    FB IOS App Menu Ellipses

  • Click "Open in external browser" in the popup menu.

FB IOS App Open In Browser Menu

  • Continue with the waiver and registration process.

RUSA Route #3849 "2026 Brevet Week 400K"

Heading out of town early in the morning, the route travels some normally busy roads. However, at 5:00 am, there should be lighter traffic than in the heat of rush hour. Before you know it, you’re out of town and almost feel like you’re in the wilderness already. The route travels along Mud Bay and Madrona Beach, which are both gorgeous, but you probably won’t see the sights given that it will still be mostly dark during this part of the route.

The next section of the route travels 19 kilometers along Highway 101 which is a very busy road on a Friday, but there’s a wide shoulder. It will be noisy and annoying, but a necessary evil to get out to the gorgeous sights awaiting you. Your first opportunity for food and water may be the Dayton Store at approximately KM 44.5. According to Google, this store opens at 8:00 AM but it’s been known to be open earlier. The first control is at the Matlock Store, 60 KM from the start, which again doesn’t officially open until 8:00 AM, but we will have an SIR volunteer there from about 7:00 AM until the store opens. You’ll want to stop here either way because the next services will be the staffed control at Wynoochee Dam at about KM 110.

From Matlock to Wynoochee you won’t see much traffic except for some logging trucks. Be aware of them as it is a weekday and they are working out here a lot! Cougar Smith Rd turns to gravel and immediately kicks up. It’s about 4 KM to the end of the gravel, most of it climbing (despite what your Garmin might say!) After that adventure it’s 25 fairly pleasant kilometers to Wynoochee Dam. At 108.3 KM there is a heated restroom with water. But keep going into the campground and down to the boat launch where a friendly SIR volunteer will be waiting for you with drinks and snacks. Be sure to find her! If you can’t find her, ask for help to find the boat launch. YOU MUST CHECK IN HERE! There is no cell service out here so our volunteer has to stay until every rider passes through. If you don’t check in with her you will be DQ’d!!

Return up the hill and out of the campground the way you came, and then turn right onto the gravel of Donkey Creek Rd. Again, expect logging trucks. There are some steep descents on loose gravel here so be careful! Don’t get too excited when you get back to pavement, it alternates gravel and pavement for several more kilometers before finally becoming all pavement.

Eventually you will come out to US 101 (KM 146.9) and head north toward Lake Quinault. Expect good shoulder and lots of logging trucks on this busy road. Due to a washout we can no longer circumnavigate Lake Quinault, so we must do a couple of out and backs. The first is a shorter one (about 3.5 KM) on South Shore Road to the Quinault Mercantile where you should stock up on supplies. Turn around here and head back out to 101 (on a slightly different route). Passing through Amanda Park you’ll find a few more services if you didn’t take advantage of the Mercantile. On North Shore Rd it’s a little longer trek out to the turnaround which also involves about 16 KM of gravel.

Once you get back out to 101 again (at 217.7 KM) you’ve got a long haul before you get off it. There are a few services along the route here including Humptulips which is on the cue sheet. At 260.7 KM it’s time to get off this busy road. 25 kilometers or so of country roads (watch for logging trucks!) will take you into Hoquiam.

Here you will need to be paying attention. At Riverside Avenue you need to turn LEFT (wrong- way) onto the sidewalk and ride for 0.6 KM before crossing at the crosswalk at 20 th Street (Grays Harbor Farmer’s Market). Don’t miss either of these turns!

A busy road through Hoquiam and Aberdeen will eventually take you up onto the bridge over the Chehalis River. Once you get off the ramp and onto the main bridge be cautious! There is no shoulder so you’ll likely want to take the right lane. At the bottom you’ll keep right but then need to get over to turn left at the light.

Don’t miss the turn onto the Basich Trailway or you’ll find yourself on a busy road with construction as you head into Cosmopolis. After the Chevron in Cosmopolis you’ll head up the lovely Blue Slough Rd and the less lovely Hwy 107 into Montesano. There are services here and 15 KM up the road in Elma. The 24-hour Shell in Elma at 331 KM is the last definite services available for slower riders. Make your way along South Bank Road to the End of the Trail convenience store in Oakville at 366.5 KM (closes at 11:00 PM) and then on up to the finish along pleasant roads.
