Once more, with feeling this time.

This route was originally the 2021 Solistice 1000K, scheduled for June, near the Summer Solstice. As one does. That ride was cancelled due to a record-setting heat wave.

We rescheduled for August. The (now misnamed) Solistice 1000K was again cancelled, this time due to forest fires and widespread smoke.

So here we are, September 2022, and we'll make another go at it. Notes from the original event:

This a brand new route and should entail some great adventuring. We have traveled most of these roads on other Brevets and Permanents, but there are a few twists and turns to keep you entertained. The route consists of 3 loops all starting and finishing at the Tumwater La Quinta Inn. While that will make it easy to clean up and grab some sleep for each loop, it will also provide an easy temptation to abandon. There are portions of the ride that will require more than the usual rando self-sufficiency. Make sure you check your yearning for sleep and civilization at the door so you can successfully finish the entire adventure!

Pre-ride Notes

  • A satellite-based GPS tracker (SPOT, Garmin InReach, etc) is highly recommended. The route traverses many areas with zero cell service.
  • There is, in total, about 67K of gravel on this route, some of it relatively new (and therefore soft/loose). At least 30mm tires recommended.
Additional information is availabe in the pre-ride report.

Safety Inspection

All riders must pass a mandatory safety inspection. NO INSPECTION = NO RIDE. Required equipment:
  • Functioning headlight and tailight. Backups and/or spares highly recommended.
  • Reflective vest or sash.
  • Reflective ankle bands.
An SIR volunteer will be performing safety inspections at the La Quinta start/ovenrnight/finish control hotel on Thursday, September 8 from 7:00pm until 8:00pm. Safety inspections will also be available the morning of the ride (Friday, September 9) starting at 4:15am.

Spotwalla Tracker

We've set up an SIR SpotWalla club account for this event (optional to use). Riders may join here (note: riders responsible for SpotWalla fees). Viewers may use the following link to track joined riders.

Accommodations

All riders are responsible for making their own hotel accommodations. As of 09/04/2022 the Tumwater La Quinta Inn still has rooms available for the event dates. If you are planning to ride this event you should make hotel reservations ASAP.

Routes and Cuesheets

Full Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40835387 [FINAL]

Note: This full route is useful for review and planning purposes only — it is not recommended for upload to GPS devices. The La Quinta hotel is effectively visited four times (start, first overnight, second overnight, finish) which confuses many GPS devices. You will have a happier GPS device (and therefore a happier rider) if you use the individual day routes below.

Note: Printed cuesheets will not be available at the start. You may choose to print your own. To print the cuesheet from one of the above route pages, click the More button, then select Print Cuesheet.
