RUSA Route #2739 "2021 Brevet Week 400K Chuckacamano Views"
This route is based on RUSA Route #2439 "Chuckamano Diamond 400K", also held Brevet Week 2022.
The ride starts by going north on familiar roads to Snohomish, Marysville and Stanwood. After Stanwood, the route makes a loop on Camano Island which is stacked full of hills. The Elger Bay Grocery is a control on the island, and then you will go north back to Stanwood. The route does not take the southern portion of Camano Island as in other brevets. When returning back in Stanwood the route goes north to Conway, Edison and Chuckanut Drive.
From Chuckanut Drive the route goes right on to Old Fairhaven Pkwy. There is a Subway (open until 7pm) on the left side of Old Fairhaven Pkwy right before passing under I-5. Immediately after I-5, the route stairsteps (max 10% grade) up Old Fairhaven Rd, gaining 600 ft in 3.5 miles. The route follows beautiful roads along Lake Whatcom. The 11K on SR9 can have some traffic with minimal shoulder. Also watch for cracks in the road surface that can swallow your wheel. We turn onto Fruitdale Rd to proceed to Sedro Woolley, after which we head into Burlington and Mt Vernon. We then head south to Conway, making a left onto SR534 (the 76 station here is open 24hrs and the last services until Arlington). After the climb up SR534 to Lake McMurray, turn onto SR9 for a short stretch to the Centennial Trail back to Snohomish. After the Broadway climb, the finishing leg goes down into Woodinville and takes the Sammamish River trail into Redmond.
Bill Dussler's Pre-Ride Notes
See above for the route description. The weather for 6/3 looks about the same as my preride on 5/27- lower 50s in the morning, sunny and upper 60s / low 70s in the afternoon. Light winds out of the south should make for easy pedaling through the Skagit flats up to Bellingham.
I stopped 3 times to refuel. Elger Bay Food Mart and Cafe (130K) for sandwiches / burgers. In Fairhaven (218K), there is a Subway just before the route passes under I-5 which is open until 7. The 76 station in Conway (300K) has a couple tables inside.
I got on to the Centennial Trail just as darkness fell. Keep an eye out for the bollards on the trail, which all had reflective tape.
If it's clear as forecast, riders will enjoy a full moon at night. You may also notice Venus in the western sky.
There is street parking on the south side of NE 65th. For early finishers, there is a trail parking lot just south of the Redmond Inn.
There are many food options on the route. On the return, there are a 24hr c-stores in Conway, Arlington, and Woodinville.

- All riders are required to have read and signed a waiver (part of the online event registration) before beginning the ride.
- All riders must comply with local traffic laws as well as RUSA's Rules for Riders.
- All riders must have front and rear lights, a reflective vest or sash, and reflective ankle bands. See RUSA Article 10 for details. Be prepared to show these to the ride organizer at the start. Lights should be on during any low-light conditions (rain, fog, night, tunnels, etc).
- All riders who cannot finish a ride (DNF) must contact the organizer ASAP using the phone number on the brevet control card.
- All riders must turn in their signed brevet control card at the ride finish.
- All riders must check-in with the organizer or a volunteer at the start, the finish, at any overnight controls.
